General Info

The 19th  October 2014 will take place the 8th Chianti Marathon at Castelnuovo Beradenga, (15 km  from Siena), witch  is included in the Italian list of  "Slow Cities  and centre of the Cities of the Wine" .

“And event like Ecomaratona-said the deputy mayor of Castelnuovo Berardenga, Fabrizio Nepi- had been supported by our government from the beginning, becouse it combines perfectly the value of sport with the regard of the territory.

The wineries tour only reinforces further this bond, also allowing a tourist revival in a month, that of October, when the main flow of tourist has gone. It can be a source of revenue for the companies of our district in a time when there is more need than ever. Without omitting that it gives to italian and foreign tourists the chance of exploring a territory which is unique all over the world.”

For the whole day of Saturday and Sunday the Mercantale is organized, near the starting and finish area and in the main streets of the country, with typical products of the territory, like Chianti wine, the olive oil, Tuscan salami, and pecorino cheese of Crete senesi.

After the race have a shower and have lunch at our free pasta party for all the athlets, and then come to the square of arrival and pick up your category prize; thanks to the chip and the TDS support you can have the real-time classification.

You can well out of the expo, where you have the chance to be led by the legendary/great Gelindo Bordin, about the latest Diadora shoes.

STEP BY STEP ALONG THE 42 KM OF ECOMARATONA

Ecomaratona del Chianti is a trail of 42 km on roads  and technically well-manteined easy paths. The start is on Sunday, October 19 at 9.30 am from Castelnuovo Berardenga and the same is for the arriving, in P.zza Marconi in Castelnuovo Berardenga.

It’s suitable for all those who want to get closer to the trial, even over long distances, but who are not yet able to deal with/to face technically difficult paths; it’s ideal for those who want to test themselves on the classic distance of 42 km but don’t want to run against time, and who are looking for a special landscape and want to enjoy the nice welcome typical of Touscany and Italy.

Initially the route is very easy, with gentle and fast slopes, sunk into the silvery semi-desert landscape of  Crete Senesi. Arrived at km 8, in the shortest part of the route (210 masl), a long rise begins, alternating short flat strechts and easy slopes, up to km 23. Now the trail crosses Chianti with the vineyards, the olive groves and the beautiful small farms, villas and castles. Arrived at km 20, the trail crosses the country Villa a Sesta, here starts the Chianti Trail, then a long slope leads you up to Campi, the highest part of the route at 630 mt asl. Here on your right you can see all the way of the race and the outline/profile of Siena with its towers. From here you go down up to km 31 through a wonderful pine forest up to the fairy village San Gusmè, start of Arceno Trail, at 445 mt asl.

Crossing Tenuta di Arceno with the unforgettable boulevard of cypresses (1.5 km) and with the vineyards perfectly shaped as sea waves, you come back to the starting point. But be careful/watch out for the final slope at km 39, 700 mt long, it can strain you.

TRAIL DEL LUCA

“Trial del Luca” is a competitive race of 11 km, starting on Sunday, October 19 at 9.30 am from San Gusmè and arriving in P.zza Marconi at Castelnuovo Berardenga.

Suitable for all runners and even for those who have never run a trail, it is set on the route of Ecomaratona, entirly on clean and well beaten roads.

The starting is in front of the village San Gusmè among the rows of the wineyards of Tenuta di Arceno. You could admire the geometry of the rows, just like sea waves, which make even more spectacular the landscape and the view around you.

The first stretch of 800 mt is a downhill across the rows of  waving wineyards, and lately the graps have been gathered, so gentle ups and downs across the wineyards and olives lead you up to the street of Arceno. Along the route you can admire first Villa Arceno, and then the homonymous farm which runs and treats the wineyards surrounding the route. Talking about the landscape, this is the most beautiful and exciting part, for the beauty of nature, of the country houses and for the famous boulevard of secular cypresses, 1.5 km of thrilling beauty.

After one km of downhill and a short flat stretch, you enter the wood where at km 8 you cross with the ford of river Ombrone, one of the main of Italy, but here it is a simple brook.

Immediatly after you find a path with the last and demanding hill, 700 mt which can strain you.

So you deal with a plain stretch with a thrilling outlook over Castelnuovo Berardenga, Chianti, Siena in the background, and below you the finish line. After a simple slope you enter Castelnuovo Berardenga where, in Piazza Marconi, the main of the country, you find the finish line and a full refreshment with water, Salts, bananas, oranges, sweets and the legendary bruschetta (bread with olive oil just produced)

After the beautiful church you walk for almost 500 mt before arriving at the agritourism Palazzetti (7.3 km) where you find the second rest stop in an hospitable and pleasant location.
